About Us

History

River Angels was founded in 2011, by Lynda Donovan with a vision then (as today) to provide emotional, physical and financial support to people with cancer and their families in the Augusta Margaret River Shire.

The not-for-profit charity relies on private and community donations, corporate sponsors, and fundraising to operate.

Over the past 12 years River Angels has assisted more than 145 families, on average supporting 20-25 families at any one time for approximately 12 months each.

Mission

River Angels utilises available resources to serve the needs of clients with cancer and their immediate families.

Supports include:

  • Financial (such as pharmacy items, fuel vouchers, school lunches, grocery vouchers, heating, utilities, health and wellbeing and counselling)
  • Practical assistance (such as cleaning, gardening, food drops, household repairs and transport)
  • Emotional and community support

Resources used to provide supports are:

  • provided to River Angels in the forms of financial and in-kind donations
  • provided through volunteer time, skills and know-how
  • generated via three major fund-raising events throughout the year

I founded River Angels in 2011, during which time I have held the positions of Secretary, Treasurer and President. I have been involved in all aspects of volunteering including cooking, cleaning, gardening, transport, fundraising, and odd jobs.

In 2022 the River Angels Management Committee voted to employ me on a part-time basis as the Coordinator. I am very proud of River Angels and what we have achieved over the last 12 years and hope we can continue to provide this valuable support for our community into the foreseeable future.

Ann-Marie Harvey

Ann-Marie Harvey

Committee Member

Ann-Marie joined River Angel Committee in 2021. Her reason to be involved is to give back & pay forward what she has personally experienced from River Angels’ support while also hoping to help with perceptions of someone who had received assistance.

Her main role on the committee is fundraising. Ann-Marie was involved in the organising of our first two Garden Party events.

Ann-Marie knows firsthand how important River Angels is to the community.
